Theft alert, September 18th 2018

There is a spate of number plate thefts in the area.  The consequences of being targeted by this theft is that the perpetrator can exchange his/her plates for your and then visit as many petrol stations, anywhere in the country, fill up and drive off knowing that the ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera has your name and address and will come to you for payment.  The charge may also be for driving off without paying.

In the next forum meeting at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, 24th September in the Banners Gate Community Hall, we will have special screws available for you to exchange for the screws fixing your number plate.  The screws can be tightened but the cannot be unscrewed.

We also have a speaker, Bob Green from the Sutton Coldfield Speakers’ Club, who will entertain us on the joys, and otherwise, of growing up in the 1950s.

Sutton Coldfield Art Trail 2018 – this weekend!

Don’t miss the wonderful Sutton Coldfield Art Trail this weekend.  It’s a brilliant event organised by the artist of the town, a chance for you to see their work and visit their galleries and studios.  As the site says

“This year we have 37 artists working in 10 venues. You will be able to meet artists in the Gracechurch Centre, community halls, and in their studios or private houses and gardens across the town. The artists work in a large range of media and styles, including sculptors, painters, textile artists, illustrators, jewellery-makers, potters and photographers. ”

Welcome to Birmingham Bulletin with the latest news, events and competitions from Birmingham City Council.

The council scooped Gold at the Chelsea Flower Show for the seventh year running, with a display recognising and celebrating the legacy of the Windrush Generation.

The Windrush Generations free exhibition, at the Library of Birmingham until 30 June, celebrates the city’s Caribbean communities. Birmingham school children met members of the Windrush generation when they opened the event last month.

In light of the recent flooding that affected a number of areas across the city, the council prepared advice to share with relatives, friends and neighbours. Why not also sign up to the free emergency messaging service Birmingham Community Alerts and findthe information to help keep you prepared in case of any other emergency?

It’s Volunteers Week 2018, from 1-7 June. The week celebrates the contributionmillions of volunteers make across Birmingham and the UK, every year. For example, last year alone, volunteers contributed 62,101 hours to our parks service. You can find out more on our website. Get general advice about volunteering or pop along to avolunteering fair on 4 June.

It’s Scams Awareness Month during June. Trading Standards Officers will be on-hand to give advice on 12 June, 12-1.30pm, at Sutton Coldfield Library and on 20 June at the Library of Birmingham, 10.30am-3pm.
