Beech trees on the Greenway.

We reported in the 124th issue of Gatepost, February – March 2018, that as part of the development of a site identified for the commonwealth games athletes’ village we were offered a number of Beech (about 20 in total) that could be translocated from the site rather than lose them to felling.

John Porter suggested at the time that we could translocate them to the Greenway.  The photo shows the first two of five planted by a professional company using a large tree spade.  This was a complete lift and re-plant operation.

Any photos of the large tree spade in operation would be most welcome.  Please send to bgatepost@gmail.com.

Many thanks John.20181004_085554

Lost Drone, Lost Helicopter

Have you, or someone you know, lost a drone or helicopter in the last few month?  The drone was found in the Greeenway area and the helicopter near the corner of Westwood Road.  The drone had a card containing a few photos, do you recognise them?  If you think either machine belongs to you please drop us a few details to bgatepost@gmail.com and we’ll try to connect with the true owner/s.

Recycling

From the Neighbourhood Forum tonight the question of recycling was raised by a resident who had trouble finding the nearest recycling site.  Cllr. Rob Pocock told us about a site that says it all – its at WRAP.  You can reach them from the website or by phone 01295 819 619 or media.enquiries@wrap.org.uk

We then have the main meeting and finish no later than 9.30 p.m.

Latest Gatepost, August – September 2018

Gatepost August – September 2018

If you want to receive Gatepost, by email, in full colour, every issue, please send an email to bgatepost@gmail.com with Send Gatepost in the subject line.   At the very least you will read, on the front page, a message from all the councillors in Vesey, Town and City, as well as news of events, not only in Banners Gate but also in Vesey and the town.  We also carry advertisements for many local tradespeople.

Theft alert, September 18th 2018

There is a spate of number plate thefts in the area.  The consequences of being targeted by this theft is that the perpetrator can exchange his/her plates for your and then visit as many petrol stations, anywhere in the country, fill up and drive off knowing that the ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera has your name and address and will come to you for payment.  The charge may also be for driving off without paying.

In the next forum meeting at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, 24th September in the Banners Gate Community Hall, we will have special screws available for you to exchange for the screws fixing your number plate.  The screws can be tightened but the cannot be unscrewed.

We also have a speaker, Bob Green from the Sutton Coldfield Speakers’ Club, who will entertain us on the joys, and otherwise, of growing up in the 1950s.
