Schools recently told staff they plan to go ahead with their application to form a MAT of 6 Sutton primary schools, despite each having been invited to join the Learning Trust for Excellence, a successful group of non-MAT schools in Sutton Coldfield and despite staff at Penns Primary having been in formal dispute about the MAT plans since before Christmas.
MATs have been the subject of two critical Panorama documentaries and many controversial media stories. Despite repeated questions from parents since September, the schools are yet to explain what they seek to achieve in a MAT that couldn’t be achieved in other models.
Governors, parents, staff and community members are invited to a public meeting on Sunday 7th July, 2:00-4:00pm at the Carpenter’s Arms Community Centre in Boldmere, B73 5UY.
The schools say they will consult AFTER they have applied to form the MAT, but parents want meaningful consultation BEFORE this irreversible decision is made, as is their legal right. Solicitors even wrote to the schools to make this clear.
Come to the meeting to find out about the implications for our schools, staff and our children, and the alternative options. Confirmed speakers include the West Midlands Regional Officer of the National Association of Head Teachers, the Chair of the Education and Children’s Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee at Birmingham City Council, and the NEU.
